Leeds Billiards & Snooker Organisation
The Leeds Billiards & Snooker Organisation was formed in 2007, and is responsible for running the popular Leeds and District League and also the Leeds City Championships. The League and the Championships were run separately, until the amalgamation of the Leeds Billiards and Snooker Association and the Leeds and District Billiards and Snooker League, forming the new L.B&S.O.
The association has its own website, with latest league tables, competitions and high breaks at www.hsumner.co.uk

GOING UP!

Our ‘B’ Team secured their third promotion in three years by winning Division D comfortably by 10 points from Crossgates Rec ‘A’. Losing just three games all season was the key to their success and they will now aim to continue their progress up the leagues into Division C next season.

LEEDS CITY CHAMPIONSHIPS

The final stages of the 2009 Leeds City Championships took place at the Northern SC, and it was Jonathan Bagley who was star of the show, winning all four titles he competed for. It is believed that only one other player has won all four senior titles in the same season before, Paul Cavney.

Billiards:
Bagley started his winning streak with a surprise win in the Billiards final over multiple winner Steve Crosland. Bagley, who has played more and more Billiards in the last few years, reached the semi finals of the English Amateur Billiards Championship recently. Ironically, the other losing semi finalist was Crosland.

Team:
The second leg of Bagley’s quadruple came with a little help from his Crossgates Rec team mates, beating Queenswood Social in the final. However, it was their recovery from 3-0 down to Northern SC in the semis that caught the eye, Bagley winning a tense final frame against Scott Raper to edge them through.

Under 16s:
Sanderson Lam edged Oliver Lines 2-1 to win the Leeds Under 16 title. Lam, who has already made his debut for the England junior team, could have won 2-0 but regained his composure to win the final frame.

Under 18s:
In a repeat of the Under 16 final, Lam and Lines were required back at the table just 10 minutes later to compete for the Under 18 title, and it appeared as though Lam would do the double when he went 2-1 up. However, Lines, son of Main Tour pro Peter Lines, overturned a 20 point defecit on the colours to force a decider which he won to ensure the junior titles were shared between the two.

Pairs:
After a night off while the juniors played, Bagley was back at the table along with long time doubles partner Bob Patterson as they beat Pete Fisher and Mick Kirk in the final.

Singles:
After winning 3 out of 3 finals, two of them along side Patterson, Bagley now faced his good friend in the final of the big one, the Leeds City Championship. Surprisingly, Bagley had never won the singles title despite a few near misses, while Patterson had previously won the event in the 90’s. An edgy final reached 2-2 before its defining moment. Bagley trailed by 23 on the green but embarked on a green to black clearance, including potting the pink and running the white around the table landing perfectly on the black. After potting the black to win a hugely important frame, there was no way back for Patterson who could make no impact on the last as Bagley won 4-2.
