2007/08 Season
DIVISION A: Our all conquering ‘A’ team suffered a mediocre season, mixing heavy wins and heavy defeats with far too many drawn matches. In fact their total of 10 draws was the highest in the division, and left them firmly in mid-table. Their quest for three successive Yorkshire Evening Post Shields will have to wait… for now!
DIVISION D: Our new ‘C’ team finished a creditable 6th in Division D, no doubt moving clubs had an adverse effect on their mid-season matches and they will hope to feel more at home at the Northern SC next season. For the first time in years we will see two Northern SC teams going head to head next year as our ‘B’ team won promotion up to this Division (see below).
DIVISION E: Our ‘B’ team, despite the infamous mid-season ‘Lam-gate’ scandal, finished up top of the pile thanks mainly to the services of Peter Lines and Kuldesh Johal, who are both set to turn Professional next season. Unfortunately, this will mean they are ineligible to join their team-mates in Division D next year, and it remains to be seen whether the rest of the squad can cope with the loss of their ‘big-guns’. Perhaps Andy Brook can be persuaded out of Leeds League retirement to join up with them next term.

After beating our ‘A’ team in the semi finals, Main Line struggled to cope with the loss of their number one, Wayne Cooper, who had to miss the final due to a clash of dates with a match in the All England CIU event. With the scores locked at 3-3, it fell to Peter Lines and Dave Barker to play the decider, with Lines holding firm to clinch the title.

Lines and Johal, who will both be turning professional next season, were made to struggle before winning the final 3-1. They surged into a 2-0 lead before Raper potted green to pull one back, and despite chances on all four sides they potted blue to win after Grace had made a bold attempt to force a decider.

Lines claimed his first Leeds City Championship by overpowering the young Binns with a superb display of breakbuilding. Lines constructed efforts of 40, 69, 76 and 126 to delight the spectators. Lines is returning to the professional circuit next season which will leave the door open for the rest of Leeds’ finest cuemen to battle it out for the title.
